Biography

Luke Sieve joined The Cleveland Orchestra as its bass trombonist in January of 2024. He has also performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. 

 

As a soloist, Luke recently traveled to Ukraine to record Larry Lipkis’s Harlequin with the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra for Naxos. Luke was a finalist in the Music Academy of the West’s Duo Competition in the summer of 2023. He also won the 2019 Southeast Trombone Symposium’s S.E. Shires Solo Competition and was named a finalist in the International Trombone Association’s 2018 George Roberts Competition. 

 

A student of James Markey, bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Luke graduated from the New England Conservatory in May 2023 with his B.M. in Bass Trombone Performance. In order to further his studies, Luke spent two summers as a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center from 2021-2022  before attending the Music Academy of the West in the summer of 2023.

 

Luke began playing the trombone as a sixth-grader in his hometown of Flower Mound, Texas, after his dad told him he could pick any other instrument. His dad has since grown to love the trombone. In his spare time, Luke enjoys climbing, running, and hanging out with his cats, Dmitri and Lenny.
